We were living in Hollywood and some things were going well and others were going nowhere good.
We decided to pull the plug.
In 2004, we sold almost everything and bought a 1986 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia.

I didn’t want to come back. That’s the truth. I was exiled, abandoned, a failure, but I didn’t want to come back. I found peace in the garden and I am still reconciling the need to be in society, survival, identity and telling the truth.

My work involves many things, but at this moment it occurs to me, that it is about protection. That is not declared in my current statement. It’s in the art. It’s in the code. It’s in my favorite translation of attā hi attanō nāthō: “each is their own protector”. But it’s not in the statement.
