LIBERATION OR BUST
Integrating Mindful Practice into the Creative Process
Vipassana means seeing in a special way. This seeing is rooted in the practice of Sati, often translated as mindfulness, which means remember to observe. Mindfulness is the seventh fold on the Eight Fold Path, the Buddha’s method for experiencing enlightenment and resolving the issue of suffering. It is part of the concentration (Samádhi) category which cultivates wisdom.
Practicing and applying Sati develops ability to navigate the path skillfully. Since the path is an ever unfolding truth in the present, observation and equanimity form a foundation from which awareness and insight into the nature of reality can emerge.
Trained in Buddhist, Taoist and Native traditions since childhood, Attasalina first sat Vipassana retreat at the age of fifteen with her godmother Ruth Denison, a ground-breaking teacher of Buddhism in the West. Her lifelong practice and examination of the Buddha’s teachings in contrast with diverse modalities has revealed a unique perspective on suffering and awareness and the application of practice relative to the condition.
